For nearly 50 years, the Community Action movement has led the way in addressing issues of poverty for low-income individuals, families and communities, meeting immediate needs and helping them strive for greater stability and self-sufficiency.

Community Economic Development is a strategy by which local development organizations initiate and generate their own solutions to their community’s economic problems and thereby build long term community capacity and foster the integration of economic, social and environmental objectives. Public programs may be used and corporate support attracted but organizations representing the interests of the local community launch and direct the initiatives. The Community Action Partnership, through a grant from the federal Office of Community Services, Department of Health and Human Services, is providing tools and resources to strengthen the capacity of Community Action Agencies to build successful community economic development programs.

Under the OCS-CED project, the Partnership will identify, record and distribute exemplary practice/models of projects to revitalize communities; develop and rehabilitate affordable housing; promote energy efficiency; attract investments; build wealth; encourage entrepreneurship and create green jobs. The information will be provided through webinars, training, technical assistance, and informational tools on this website.
