 2010 CED Award Winners

In September 2010, The Community Action Partnership received several entries for the Community Economic Development National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Award.  Though all the projects were great and brought an immense sense of pride to the Partnership and the Community Action Network, only fifteen projects were selected to receive the award.   Our Multimedia section will spotlight short video case studies of each project.

People Incorporated Community Action Action Agency's Business Smart has helped hundreds of rural businesses in Abingdon Viginia obtain capital, become more competitive and provide consumer goods to its community.  People Inc., was one of  the Partnership's 2010 CED Award Winner for Entrpreneurship Encouragement.

Mountain Projects Community Action Agency located in Clyde, North Carolina, received the CED CAP award for Affordable Housing.   In 2006, the agency created a subdivision of forty-four new homes and additional rental housing for residents who lost their homes after 2004 Hurricane Frances and Ivan hit simultaneously in Haywood and Jackson Counties in NC. The devastation from the hurricanes caused 350 homeowners to become homeless, until the agency purchased a vacant lot for the displaced homewoners and called it the Barefoot Ridge Sub-division.
